The Ferreira brand has been known since 1751 and was established by a wine-growing family of the same name from the Douro.  Ferreira has for centuries been synonymous with high-quality Portuguese wine.  Casa Ferreirinha was the brainchild of Fernando Nicolau de Almeida, whose purpose was to begin producing high-quality table wines from the Douro Region. Ferreira became the first port wine company to produce quality table wines in the region.  Casa Ferreirinha was the name given to the table wines produced.
